On your journey to Bethlehem, you will meet the shepherds who are still in shock over the sudden appearance of the angels and are wondering about the Good News that was shared with them concerning the birth of our Saviour, Jesus Christ.
Arrive in Bethlehem in hopes of finding the Baby in the manger. Try to gain access to the city through the narrow gate, if the Roman soldiers will let you in after dark. Come prepared to register in accordance with the decree issued by Caesar Augustus and don’t forget about the tax.
Wander through the Marketplace in search of someone who can possibly point you in the right direction. Interact with Hilkiah the priest, who may be able to provide some perspective through the Old Testament prophecies concerning your quest.
Stop at the carpenter’s shop to see what he is making? Perhaps you will ask “what does a carpenter have to do with Christmas, anyway?”
Bethlehem is crowded by many other travelers as well, and there are no accommodations to be found, not even through booking.com. But eventually, you find the Baby, the hope of the world, sheltered in a back alley stable with Mary and Joseph. And in this discovery, may you be reminded of Jesus Christ, the Saviour of the World.
